CULTURE OF CAREER
Do you remember the dreams you had as a kid? What did you want to be when you grew up?
If you were like me it might have been a variety of things that perhaps evolved with time. More importantly, do you remember the day when the dreams dried up?
It most likely was about the time you were told to choose a career.
For my parents and their parents and their parents before them, a career was something you had to do, not wanted to do. It was part of your destiny. It was your responsibility and depending on how seriously you took this responsibility and the class your were born into, a suitable career would then be suggested to you. To survive you had things called hobbies that you did after hours and on weekends. If you were really lucky enough, you could also save for retirement during this time. Retirement was when you were finally allowed do the things you always wanted to, if you still had the energy.
So what do you think has been the most significant change to this approach today?
How far away would you say you are today from living the life you first imagined?
If I said you would never retire, would you still do what you do today?
